Strategy for invasive ventilation delivered in ICU – ICST

Strategy for invasive ventilation delivered in ICU

There are three key principles for invasive ventilation in ITU:

  1. Calculate the tidal ventilation volume using the patient’s height, predicted body weight and the conversion for 6ml/kg, and monitor the patient for excessive hypercapnia (pH>7.15).
  2. Position the patient to deliver prone ventilation.
  3. Aim for an even fluid balance or a fluid deficit; do not overload the patient with fluids.
