Treating Myocarditis in COVID-19

When there is suspicion of myocarditis in COVID-19, the administration of a loop diuretic should improve the patients pulmonary oedema. If the administration of a loop diuretic results in an improvement in the patient’s condition and reduction in oxygen requirement, the diagnosis of myocarditis is probably correct.

Once the diagnosis has been established, there are some key cardiac treatments to establish the patient on:

  1. Beta blockers
  2. Ace inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers
  3. Aldosterone antagonists

Another complication of myocarditis is arrhythmias which should also be treated.
